On January 10, 2022, TELUS Health, the health and wellness division of Telus, announced the launch of its Virtual Pharmacy service in Canada. Virtual Pharmacy is offered through a mobile app that is available on both iOS and Android devices and will include services such as allowing users to set up automatic refill reminders for prescription medications that are shipped directly to their doorstep, coordinating medical insurance payments, providing tools to help keep track of a family’s medications through an online dashboard, and providing users with unlimited one-on-one video and phone consultations with a pharmacist.
One of the key issues TELUS Health is attempting to address with the launch of Virtual Pharmacy is medical adherence, with Sonya Lockyer, vice president of Pharmacy at TELUS health stating “[a]s people’s lives continue to get busier, we need to focus on providing simple and convenient solutions that allow people to better manage their health and the health of their families.” A survey commissioned by TELUS Health found that one-third of Canadians missed picking up their prescriptions on time in the past year. The majority of this one-third identified in the survey cited their busy lifestyle as the reason for the delay, with nearly 60% stating it was because it slipped their mind and almost half stating it was due to work and family commitments.
Virtual Pharmacy is available in English across all provinces except Quebec, with a French version of the service being made available in the coming months.
