Telus Health Acquires Toronto-based Healthtech Startup Sprout

March 30, 2022

Telus Health (“Telus”), the health division of telecommunications company Telus, has acquired Toronto-based healthtech startup Sprout Wellness Solutions (“Sprout”).

Founded in 2012, Sprout is an online platform that seeks to increase accessibility to well-being education. Built using machine learning and cognitive behavioural science, Sprout delivers a unique user experience to encourage users’ health by measuring, rewarding, and gamifying healthy behaviours and habits. Sprout tracks various wellness measures including physical activity, nutrition and mental health. Telus was an early investor in Sprout, having been involved with the company since 2015.

“We know preventative health practices can play a major role in reducing one’s chances of developing several chronic diseases,” said Daniel Martz, vice president of virtual care at Telus Health. “More than ever, employers are being called on to play a larger role in supporting the health of their employees and this starts with a benefits plan offering that reflects the needs of today’s workforce,”.

This recent acquisition demonstrates Telus’ focus on strengthening its virtual care offerings to meet the health demands of organizations and employees. In the coming months, Telus will integrate Sprout’s platform into its virtual care services.
