As reported by Betakit, the Halifax-based tech food startup Milk Moovement has closed a $20 million USD Series A round led by VMG Catalyst. The company helps streamline the dairy farming process through the use of its software that tracks milk shipments across North America and Australia.
Milk Moovement was created as a solution to an industry-wide problem. The dairy supply chain is a complicated system that includes a web of suppliers, producers, haulers, labs, processors, and cooperatives, all of whom have traditionally operated within their own realms. The company’s software tracks milk shipments in real time, and provides users with real time industry averages, route tracking, driver performance, and producer payment tools. This has allowed for a far more efficient system that prioritizes mitigating waste throughout the supply chain.
The company manages over 30 billion pounds of milk every year, which equates to about 15% of the US dairy industry. The software has been recently employed by large dairy cooperatives in the US, such as United Dairymen of Arizona and California Dairies Inc. With this new funding, Milk Moovement aims “to build out software that goes beyond their core product of supply chain optimization. They want to help strengthen supplier and producer relationships, provide producers with faster and more transparent payment options and reconfigure how processors interact with the entire dairy supply chain.”
