IBM to Open Client Innovation Centre in Calgary

July 6, 2022

As reported by BetaKit, IBM Canada has announced the launch of its new Client Innovation Centre (CIC) in Calgary. The launch promises growth in the Canadian technology industry, and marks an increased emphasis on sustainability within the sector. IBM Canada has partnered with Invest Alberta, Calgary Economic Development and Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) to establish the CIC.

The newly announced CIC will provide consulting and technology services to its clients, utilizing technology to advance corporate sustainability and net-zero goals. Calgary provides a unique geographical opportunity for IBM’s CIC network to tap into the Canadian energy sector.

This will be the third Canadian CIC (with locations currently in Montreal and Halifax), but the Calgary location will become the first in Western Canada.

IBM stated that it will hire 250 employees over a five-year period to staff the Calgary CIC. Concerns about hiring projections have surfaced; IBM is one of several international companies that have turned to the already-strained technology talent market in Calgary.
