This upcoming summer, on June 26, 2023, the DMZ will host its inaugural Demo Day at the Toronto Metropolitan University. The DMZ is a world-leading incubator for tech startups around the world. The DMZ helps to connect startups with all the resources needed to succeed including customers, capital, industry experts and a community of entrepreneurs and influencers. Since its inception in 2010, the DMZ has helped more than 700 startups raise a collective $1.85 billion. Goodmans LLP has a longstanding relationship with the DMZ as “Legal Counsel in Residence”, providing pro-bono legal advice to its startups.
At the DMZ’s Demo Day, starups will have the opportunity to pitch their business ventures to a global audience of investors curated by the DMZ. Those startups will compete for over $300,000 in cash prizes which will be awarded at the event. The DMZ has hosted demo days in the past, however, the DMZ’s executive director Abdullah Snobar expects this year’s event to be the DMZ’s largest event to date.
The event will host over 1,000 people from government, corporate entities, non-DMZ and DMZ startups, venture capitalists and angel investors. Alongside the pitch competition, the DMZ will also facilitate networking sessions and keynote speakers to give the various attending startups an opportunity to connect with and learn from experienced entrepreneurs.
In addition to the DMZ’s operations in Toronto, the DMZ has partnerships with innovation hubs in over 10 countries, including India, Japan and Egypt, as well as two additional Canadian partnerships in Niagara Falls and Innisfil.
