As reported by BetaKit, the DMZ has partnered with GroundBreak Ventures, a venture capital firm based out of Toronto, to launch a new property technology (“proptech”) incubator program.
The program launch comes at a time when global investments in the real estate sector are at an all-time high. Founders have already begun to capitalize on these favourable market conditions, resulting in a steady increase of startups in the proptech sector. According to a recent Report by the Proptech Collective, as of 2022, there are 450 proptech startups in Canada, and 50% of those were founded in the past 5 years.
The incubator program aims to support new proptech startups by providing founders with +18 months of support, including $25,000 in grant funding, office space at the DMZ, over 60 hours of one-to-one mentorship, and fundraising support through DMZ and GroundBreak’s respective networks.
Successful applicants will also have access to DMZ’s partnerships, such as their legal counsel in residence, Goodmans LLP, who provides tailored legal advice, mentorship and networking opportunities to help startups maximize their potential.
Founders accepted into the program will have the chance to join the ranks of DMZ’s illustrious alumni network, comprised of 721 startups, who have collectively raised $1.75 billion in seed funding and created over 4,600 jobs.
Individuals interested in the proptech incubator can visit the DMZ website for more details. Applications to the program will remain open until August 14.
