Cisco Offering $1 Million USD in Prizes to Start-Ups Focused on Social and Environmental Innovation

Cisco Systems is launching its fifth Cisco Global Problem Challenge competition, and is offering USD $1 million in awards to up to 20 early-stage tech entrepreneurs.


The competition aims to recognize business ideas that leverage technology for social impact from emerging start-ups around the world. The prize money is designed to “help accelerate the adoption of breakthrough technology, products, and services that drive economic development and/or solve social or environmental problems.”


The USD $1 million in prize money is spread across 20 different awards. The grand prize is USD $250,000 to the top single team. Regional first runner-ups will receive USD $75,000 each. Individuals, teams and businesses of up to five members are eligible to apply. Applicants will proceed through two distinct submission rounds, and winners will be announced on June 29.
